  • Concept and challenges: Based on the idea of two layers, ice anchored on a stadium, the signage for the Tour des Canadiens 2 was designed for the tower’s different types of spaces spanning on its 55 floors, whether they are public, common or private. Consisting of two separate sets of serif typefaces, the signage requires increased attention to details of installation and the fine grading of the letter. This distinctive feature, rare in signange, is pushed even further with the choice of the second typography. Composed of ligatures, the letters ar join together, resulting in a single glyph. The pictograms used in the overall visual language are born from the merge of the two fonts: the dismembered letters are then recomposed into images, reinforcing a unified reading. The signage gesture also includes lighting, custom-made, in continuity with the art-deco theme of the building. With each letter’s thickness being the colours of the wall to which it is fixed, the whole signage looks like large pages of newspaper floating on walls.
