One of the main design challenges was the integration of the CHSLD and a neighboring seniors' residence (RPA) into a restricted site marked by a steep slope. What initially represented a significant constraint ultimately became an asset. The topography of the land allowed the technical spaces and the loading dock to be integrated into the basement, thus optimizing the functional organization of the building and its relationship with the site.
The project is part of the overall development of the Umano neighborhood, whose architectural signature was already largely predefined. It was therefore necessary to design a unique identity for the CHSLD, capable of addressing the challenges of space and envelope, while preserving the visual essence and overall harmony of the Umano complex.
Inside, the design is inspired by the "homes of the future" concept already tested in the CHSLD Laval project. This approach promotes living environments on a human scale, warm and functional, in order to create spaces conducive to comfort, well-being and conviviality for residents.
