COMMUNITY MIYUPIMAATISIIUN CENTRE WASKAGANISH

The CMC Waskaganish project, mandated by the Cree Council, consists of the design of a modern centre combining both clinical and community services, based on a new administrative program. The challenge here was twofold: integrating this complex program as a whole while working closely with the James Bay Cree community. This collaboration proved essential, because while health standards remain universal, their implementation must respect the cultural specificities of the Cree nation. Through this dialogue, we sought to understand, learn, and transcribe these particularities so that the center would become much more than a functional building: a place anchored in its social and cultural context.

This learning resulted in particular in the application of architectural principles inspired by Cree traditions and identity, promoting welcoming, unifying spaces that are meaningful for the community. Thus, the CMC Waskaganish embodies a respectful and adapted architecture, serving a shared vision between innovation, functionality and cultural roots. Consortium Régis Côté & ATSH;
