CHAMBORD RESIDENCE

The Chambord residence is a typical workers' duplex, located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal heritage district. The initial intention of this residential renovation was to add a new suite for the owners, with a very unobstructed view of Mount Royal, and to allow for the construction of a rooftop terrace.

This new architectural addition had to contrast with the existing building, which remained untouched. This extension therefore consisted of a simple volume delicately placed above the duplex, recessed at the level of the facade to maintain the initial alignment with the street. Our client's love of natural materials and bright colors allowed us to quickly choose copper as the exterior finish.

The idea of seeing his house change color and evolve over time thanks to natural oxidation quickly appealed to him. We ultimately chose diamond-shaped tiles to cover the extension, a reference to the vernacular false mansards specific to Montreal, which also added a texture that allowed the copper to age unevenly.
