Official opening of the Waskaganish CMC

Wednesday, January 21st marked an important moment in our work with the Cree communities of the James Bay region. The opening of the Miyupimaatisiiun Community Centre (CMC) in Waskaganish is the result of a wonderful collaboration with the Cree cultural committee, the CCSSSBJ team, and the joint work of our team with those of RÉGIS Architecture , ATSH, andStantec over the past few years.

This project represents a fundamental added value for the communities in the region, by making it possible to offer medical care as well as essential services nearby.

"It was a truly beautiful moment to see the patients, doctors, health service employees, and all those who contribute to the well-being of the Cree community moving about in the space. The building was filled with light and had a wonderful energy."

It was a pleasure to celebrate this achievement with dignitaries Ms. Greta Cheechoo - Chief of Waskaganish, Ms. Jeannie Pelletier - CBHSSJB Chairperson, Ms. Christina Biron - CBHSSJB ED., Mr. Paul John Murdoch - CNG Grand Chief, Mr. Daniel Paré - Deputy minister MSSS, the Honourable Mandy Gull-Masty - Minister of Indigenous Services as well as other representatives of the local community.

Special recognition is also due to the artist Jimmy Tim Whiskeychan for creating a significant cultural artwork overlooking the Shaputuan (Great Hall), and to the artist Darwin Sam who created the ceiling artwork in the ceremonial hall and the second-floor corridor artwork.
